Martin County Students Working Against Tobacco

Results of the 2011 WSTU-AM/WPSL-AM Radio PSA Contest!

On March 22, 2011, the winners of a local anti-tobacco radio and video PSA contest were announced live on WSTU-AM during the weekly "Coach's Corner" radio show.

The Anti-Tobacco Public Service Announcement Contest is co-sponsored by WSTU/WPSL-AM Radio, the Quit Doc Research and Education Foundation, and the Tobacco Free Partnerhship of Martin County. The contest gives local youth the opportunity to create their own 30-second radio and video PSAs highlighting youth tobacco issues. This year, the contest was expanded to include entries from both Martin and St. Lucie Counties.

Radio finalists were selected by local radio personalities and tobacco control staff. The finalists were then judged by Orlando Magic Broadcasters Dennis Neumann and Dante Marchitelli. Dennis and Dante ranked the finalists and selected the top three radio spots.

All of the winners were invited to the WSTU-AM studios for the Coach's Corner show, hosted by Mike Thomas, where they were interviewed about their views on youth tobacco use and the process of creating their spots. Unfortunately, the St. Lucie County SWAT youth were unable to attend the radio broadcast.

The winning radio spots will air on WSTU-AM and WPSL-AM radio for the next year. The winning video PSA will be used at upcoming St. Lucie Mets baseball games, and may be shown during an upcoming Orlando Magic basketball game.
